Grayhound Press – Charming Monk Gibbon item

Alister Mathews was born in Watford, England on April 7th, 1907. During the 1920’s Mathews operated Grayhound Press, a private press through which he published his friend Monk Gibbon. From the early 1950’s until some time in the 1970’s Alister Mathews was a dealer in prints and drawings, rare books and manuscripts. He died in Bournemouth in 1985.

4pp. An interesting, ephemeral, and uncommon item by this Irish poet, author and Yeats biographer known as “The Grand Old Man of Irish Letters”. Limited edition no. 238 of 500 copies printed by Ducros & Colas, Paris, on Van Gelder paper. Bodoni type. Decorated by four pochoir illustrations, possibly by Picart le Doux, [who was amongst other things a very famous French carpet designer]. A fine copy contained in a near fine original printed envelope. Large 4to.
