A nice volume for £13.46 I think! Handsome, lovely thick hand made paper with bold watermark, and looks to be virtually unused. Rather beautiful poems of the countryside and the seasons.
Crypt House Press, The Wood Gatherer and other Poems. Whitfield, Christopher 1931
Limited edition in Fine condition, original holland-backed patterned paper boards, original printed paper spine label, edges uncut, octavo, (4)+70 pages, #23 of 100 copies, handmade paper. The press was active in 1914 through to at least 1931, producing mainly jobbing printing jobs including Cotswold guides and military history. I have not found out very much about it to date.
Christopher Whitfield (1902-1967) was a businessman. But he moved to the Cotswolds in the early 1920s and was also active in the arts and crafts movement around Chipping Campden as a poet, short story writer, antiquarian and historian. Other volumes of his poetry were published by the Golden Cockerel Press: he was friendly with Christopher Sandford, the owner of that press.
